Robot (ロボット)
Skills Development Project

Overview

Robot Project Title Screen.

This was a solo two week skills development project. My primary focus at the time was working with cameras and learning how to toggle between different viewpoints.
I experimented with sockets, physics and camera effects which was a test to see how much I could achieve in two weeks.
The camera transition screens were inspired by the games 'Resident Evil/Biohazard' and 'Devil May Cry'.

Problems and Solutions

The Player Character

I spent time learning Unreal Engine 4's physics system and using sockets and seeing how they could be applied to the character.
I gave the robot a magnet hand which would allow them to pick up certain objects.
I made a very simple puzzle in which the player would pick up a block and place it on a pressure plate, this would open a door to finish the level.

Enemies

I created a lose condition whereby the player could fall if they missed a jump and I also incorporated turrets that would fire projectiles which could knock the player off the edge.

Story and Level Structure

I made the level fairly simplistic as I wanted to focus on the camera cuts and techniques to follow the player.
I implemented force fields to stop the player from advancing. These could be deactivated by acquiring keys within the level.
I experimented changing camera views at different heights and this led to the creation of jump pads. Once the player reached the next elevation the camera's view would shift.
